The Arturia MicroBrute is a compact and portable monophonic analogue synthesizer based on the highly successful MiniBrute.
The MicroBrute by Arturia has been designed to keep all the power and sound quality of its bigger sibling and features a 100% analogue signal path to provide the big, punchy sound. Despite being monophonic, the MicroBrute is capable of delivering some of the richest and largest sounds thanks to its ability to mix different triangle, square and Saw waveforms in varying amounts. In addition each of the waveform features dedicated waveform modifiers to add a wide range of tonalities.
New to the MicroBrute is a unique Overtone control which adds an additional oscillator which uses a clever Pulse Width modulation to offer a choice between sub oscillator and adding a 5th harmonic above the root note or anything in between. The Overtone makes your bass sound fatter and your leads and pads much richer. The Overtone can easily be controlled via the Envelope Generator or the LFO via the included Mod Matrix.
Like in the MiniBrute, the MicroBrute includes Ultrasaw and Metalizer modifiers which add further richness to the oscillator. From thickening of a Saw to very complex waveforms rich in harmonics, both functions can deliver an uncompromising sound.  By using the Mod Matrix, it is possible to push the sounds even further creating monstrous sounds that can only be achieved with analogue signals. Added to that the same legendary Steiner-Parker multi-mode filter found in classic analogue synths of the past and you get the very best of analogue synthesis in an incredible small footprint.
At the heart of the Arturia MicroBrute is its impressive modulation matrix which lets you assign LFO or envelope to different destinations. By default, the LFO is routed to the Pitch while the Envelope is routed to the Metalizer. To override the default routing, the MicroBrute features a small patch panel on the top right corner which lets you assign either LFO or Envelope to Pitch, Filter, Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), Sub Generation, Metalizer and SAW.  The Envelope Generator uses a standard Attack, Decay, Sustain Release (ADSR) which can control the filter cut-off and amplitude directly but can also be made to control the different functions found on the panel. The LFO includes Sine, square and Saw waveforms and ranges from 0.1Hz to 200Hz for long slow modulations to Frequency Modulation territory. The included Mod Wheel gives you control over either LFO amount of cut-off for expressive modulation and performances full of character.
The Brute Factor is also included which is inspired by a classic trick used on MS-20 synthesizers with the headphone output routed back into the Ext Instrument input. The result was a feedback loop which when controlled provided grungy and raspy sounds. The Brute Factor recreates this perfectly and delivers the additional depth and roundness to the bottom heard on the original. However when pushed the brute factor becomes, like in the original technique, unpredictable and changing the behaviour of the filter.
The MicroBrute adds a great step sequencer which is inspired by some of the step sequencers of the past and lets you use eight different sequences with up to 64 steps each. Extremely easy to use you just need to play the notes you want played for each step and press the Tap button to add a rest.  The Step Sequencer lets you switch sequences on the fly immediately or wait until the step is completed.
