Rupert Neve Designs 5211

The Rupert Neve Designs 5211 is a dual-channel mic preamp bringing dramatic updates to the original 5012 including a Variable Silk, custom output transformer of the Shelford series and a new +/-21V power rails.

The Rupert Neve Designs 5211 boasts the same Transformer-Like Amplifier of the original portico 5012 which is designed to capture the sound in its purest form. Each channel provides 72dB of extra low-noise gain spread over a coarse gain that works in 6dB steps and a continuously variable +/- 6dB trim pot. The input can also serve as an extremely high-quality line input with an impedance of 10k Ohms. It also features a continuously variable high-pass filter ranging between 20Hz to 250Hz as well as the usual +48V phantom power and polarity reverse switch.

The 5211 mic preamp includes an updated version of Rupert Neve’s legendary Silk texture which now adds a texture pot to control the amount of harmonic content added to recreate the sonic character of vintage modules. It works by reducing negative feedback while saturating the output transformer and changing the frequency spectrum. This results in a sweeter and richer sound which can then be amplified by driving the preamp level to the edge.

The 5211 is an impressive update on the Portico 5012 bringing both the new and vintage Rupert Neve sound in one 1U rack. This mic preamp can produce stunningly delicate and clear sound as well as a thick and warm tone if required.
