Hand-built large-diaphragm valve condenser microphone with modular design, low resonance solid-brass body and E95F Glass Triode Valve
The Soyuz SU-017 is a hand-built large-diaphragm valve condenser microphone with swappable capsules designed to deliver warm and rich sound.
The Soyuz SU-017 comes with a large diaphragm cardioid capsule but can be used with the large diaphragm omni and figure-of-eight capsules as well as small diaphragm capsule from the SU-011 pencil microphone. This makes the SU-017 extremely versatile and can be used for a wide variety of recordings, from vocals to orchestras.
The Soyuz is somewhat unique in design, with its body based on mathematical principles. The solid brass body is made of a sphere which is bisected and split by a ratio of 1 to 1.618. This same ratio is also employed to the distance separating the capsule head. This design principle, often found in nature is thought to reduce unpleasant resonance. The solid-brass is milled and machined in-house and are not treated but come with a polishing cloth to keep its appearance.
The Large diaphragm capsule that comes with it is inspired by the legendary Neumann K67 capsule and just like the latter is a dual-backplate with 1” gold-sputtered diaphragm.
A Russian E95F glass triode valve is employed and sourced from an old Russian tube manufacturer that started in the 1960s. The mic output transformer, on the other hand, is manufactured in-house.
The SU-017 comes in a handmade wooden box which is contained with the Power Supply, cable and shock mount in a handmade wooden suitcase.
