The FMR Really Nice Preamp RNP8380 is a pair of separate mic preamps providing up to 66dB of gain at astonishingly low distortion levels in a compact 1/3 rack format.Designed with sonic neutrality in mind, without sounding overly clinical or sterile. There’s very little coloration – no unexpected frequency response peaks and troughs – across the very wide frequency response at every gain setting. Particularly, there’s no variation in the preamp’s low frequency response as a function of gain staging. Basically, what you put into the RNP you get out with very little additional effect.
Each channel on the RNP has an unbalanced send/receive jack that allow you to connect to an RNC using a single TRS (tip-ring-sleeve) cable per channel. You can also use this feature to balance any other unbalanced piece of gear (with the proper cables of course). The RNP ramps up to +48Volts slowly, in case you forgot your SM 57 doesn’t need phantom power. The ramp also helps the pre “settle” and reduces the number of output pops and clicks.
