The Moog Drummer From Another Mother Aka. Moog DFAM is a Percussion Synth like no other, a subtractive synth voice with an onboard sequencer that should basically be called “techno box”. It says Moog on the front, but that’s about where the similarities with any Moog synthesizer end.
A standalone percussion machine in its own right, but also Eurorack compatible the DFAM is a two oscillator synthesizer, with very flexible and playable 8 step sequencer. Each step has variable pitch and velocity and thanks to it’s semi modular architecture, can be used to control any parameter internally or externally.
It’s capable of some monstrous bass tones and smooth leads, but raw FM percussion is where this synth really succeeds. The oscillators have some pretty heavy inter-modulation capabilities and simple tweaks can lead to some devastating drones, bass tones and percussion.
Each VCO has a wide frequency response and produces both square and triangle waveforms, they can either run freely or can be controlled by the onboard sequencer, there’s also hard sync for even more tonal flexibility.
Whilst the Drummer Form Another Mother might have Drummer in its name, it’s just as effective at making basslines and drones. It’s incredibly simple and fun to use and would complete any live or studio setup.
